Cancellation
Your right of withdrawal as a consumer in the European Union, and how to use it.
1. Right of withdrawal
In short:If you are a consumer in the EU, you can withdraw from a paid subscription within 14 days without giving a reason.
As a consumer in the European Union, you have the right to withdraw from a paid contract with us within 14 days without giving any reason. A consumer is any natural person who enters into the contract for purposes that are predominantly outside their trade, business, craft, or profession.
2. Withdrawal period
In short:The 14 days start when you sign up for a paid plan.
The withdrawal period is 14 days from the date the contract is concluded. For digital services (such as a Chessou subscription), the contract is concluded when your subscription starts. To meet the withdrawal deadline, it is sufficient that you send your communication concerning your withdrawal before the period has expired.
3. How to withdraw
In short:The easiest way is to cancel your subscription in Settings within the 14 day period. We will treat that as your withdrawal notice. If you prefer the formal route, email or letter also work.
The simplest way to withdraw is to cancel your subscription in the Settings section of your account while you are still within the 14 day withdrawal period. We treat this in app cancellation as a clear and unambiguous statement of your withdrawal.
You can also use any of the following formal channels if you prefer:
- Sending an email to the address listed in the Imprint;
- Using our contact form;
- Sending a letter to the postal address listed in the Imprint;
- Filling in the model withdrawal form below.
Using the model form is optional. Any unambiguous statement is sufficient.
4. Consequences of withdrawal
In short:We refund any payment you made within 14 days using the same payment method you used.
If you withdraw from the contract, we will refund all payments received from you without undue delay and at the latest within 14 days from the day on which we receive your withdrawal notice. We use the same means of payment that you used for the original transaction, unless we expressly agree otherwise with you. You will not be charged any fees for this refund.
5. Early performance of digital services
In short:If you ask us to start your subscription right away and confirm that you accept losing your withdrawal right once the service is fully provided, the withdrawal right ends when full performance begins.
Where the contract concerns the supply of a digital service that is not supplied on a tangible medium, the right of withdrawal expires in accordance with Section 356 (4) of the German Civil Code (BGB) if you have expressly consented to us beginning performance of the contract before the end of the withdrawal period, and you have confirmed your awareness that you lose your right of withdrawal once the contract has been fully performed. We will ask for both confirmations at the point of subscription where applicable.
6. Cancelling an active subscription
In short:You can cancel your subscription anytime from Settings. The right of withdrawal above is separate from regular cancellation.
Beyond the statutory withdrawal right, you may cancel an active subscription at any time from the Settings section of your account. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period. From the EU consumer cancellation button rules in force from June 2026, an in-app cancellation button will be provided alongside the Settings flow.
7. Model withdrawal form
In short:Optional. Fill in this form and send it to us if you want to use the official template.
